First off, I'd like to say congrats and thanks to the good people of Pixeldrip Gallery. Their hard work paid off with a show that was really fun to be a part of. "Evitan"

This past weekend at Harlem Stage, we were fortunate enough to see a couple of shows paying tribute to the legacy of rap group, A Tribe Called Quest. A 4-part series, it showcased Tribe's music and artists influenced by them. 

Included was a special set by "Evitan" ("Native" spelled backwards)  which consists of Dres of Black Sheep, Jarobi of A Tribe Called Quest and DJ Strike. Luckily, there was enough light where I could sketch their performance.

Afterwards, I introduced myself to Jarobi in the lobby, showed him my work, and then he introduced me to the rest of the group.

It was a surreal experience, as I told Dres: "My brother wouldn't believe it because he used to breakdance in the living room to your guys' tapes back in the day!"

The Little Red Hen

This illustration is based on the children's story, "The Little Red Hen." In it, the hen does all the work around the house while the other two are lazy and just sit around. I thought it'd be fun to put them in the fashion and settings of 1920's.

The Emperor's New Year...

New year, new changes--nothing out of this world or super drastic, just chipping away and aiming at progress...

This was inspired by the work of J.C. Leyendecker, Daniel Adel, and Peter de Seve.

Toy project: design a plush. The inspiration for Rocky was my uncle who, when we were growing up, never really bought us toys in the "toy-ish" sense but got us useful things like backpacks and travel/exploration equipment--so more "Discovery Channel" than "Cartoon Network."
